Flooding is a horror itself. However, the even worse parts happens when you return home and you see all your hard work, effort and time soaked in dirty water. Restoration is always an option but then a number of precautionary methods need to be highly observed to ensure safety throughout the whole restoration process. Here are basic tips to ensure a safe restoration:

Use only organic cleaning products. Most commercial cleaners contain toxins which can be harmful and safe to pets and humans. When inhaled or accidentally eaten by your pets, you puppies and kitties can die in no longer than a day. These toxins are also known to carry a variety of health hazards to humans. Few of the most common health problems brought about by these chemicals are food poisoning, skin allergies and several other respiratory problems – the most common of which being asthma.

To restore your papers and photographs, the first thing you need to is to take them out from the muddy water as soon as you can. Let them dry up. For papers, you can lay them flat on a blotting paper or paper towels. Air dry until completely dry. Photographs, on the other hand needs to be handled with carefully. Accidentally rubbing the image can cause blotting. Rinse in clear water then air dry. Avoid drying photographs in direct sunlight.

To restore your carpets, you need to use a vacuum cleaner to absorb the water from the
soaked carpets. Make sure that water has been completely absorbed from the carpet. Once the carpet has completely dried, take the old padding out them replace it with a new one. To finish off and to get rid of other carpet stains, use an effective carpet stain remover. -
Your washing machines need to be reconditioned. Ask advise from a professional conservator. Then disinfect. Pour disinfectant to an empty washing machine. Scrub when necessary. Dispose water then finally, wipe until dry using a clean cloth dipped in a liquid disinfectant.

All furniture or appliances with metal surfaces need to be closely observed for rusting. It is not necessary for appliances to be submerged in water for rusting to occur. A damp environment with excessive moisture is perfect enough to cause rusting. Be ready to perform “first aid” rust removal procedures to prevent rust from infecting more materials.
